June 27, 2024

Pesta Buku Antarabangsa Kuala Lumpur (PBAKL), also known as the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair (KLIBF), is a renowned annual event hosted at WTC - KL in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Organized by the Ministry of Education through the National Book Council of Malaysia (MBKM) in collaboration with key industry associations, this 10-day event was scheduled from 24 May to 2 June 2024.

PBAKL serves as a central hub for book enthusiasts, offering a diverse array of publications and a variety of literary activities. Each year, it attracts approximately 1.8 million visitors, making it a significant cultural event in the region.

Empowering the Crowd

The PBAKL Book Fair is designed to cater to a wide audience, including families, students, educators, book enthusiasts, local publishers, authors, and industry professionals. Its primary focus is on promoting reading and literacy to the public, showcasing a vast range of books and publications, and providing a vibrant platform for interaction between authors, publishers, and readers.

As the event’s chosen technology partner, Jublia plays a crucial role in fostering attendee engagement through comprehensive content management, streamlined agenda access and more.

Goals and Challenges

Despite its past successes, organizing an event of this magnitude comes with several challenges. One of the primary objectives this year is to enhance information sharing and facilitate seamless information exchange during the event. With several halls, hundreds of exhibitors, and multiple speaking engagements happening simultaneously, managing effective communication and information dissemination to attendees is crucial. Additionally, engaging a diverse audience with varied interests and preferences adds another layer of complexity.

To ensure attendees can easily navigate the event and access essential information, a robust solution is needed. This is where Jublia steps in, embracing the challenge of adapting its typically B2B-focused technology to cater to a predominantly B2C event. By creatively tailoring our solutions to meet the needs of the organizers, Jublia aims to provide a seamless and engaging experience for all attendees, helping them make the most of their time at PBAKL.

Tailored Solutions for a Public Attendees

To address the unique challenges of PBAKL, Jublia, in collaboration with the event organizers, implemented several innovative solutions through a standalone event app. This approach was chosen to provide a dedicated, all-in-one experience for users that was easy to use, ensuring that all attendees could effortlessly access essential information and navigate the event effectively.

One of the app's standout features was its detailed agenda, enabling attendees to browse and explore sessions taking place across the event days. Attendees could effortlessly personalize their experience by live-saving and favoriting sessions of interest, ensuring they never missed out on key activities. With 7 session tracks during the event days, real-time updates and notifications kept attendees informed of any schedule changes, allowing them to make the most of their time at the fair.

In addition to the agenda, the app provided comprehensive profiles for exhibitors and speakers. These profiles included booth locations and product details, helping attendees to navigate the event more effectively and make informed decisions about which sessions and booths to visit.

The app also featured comprehensive floor plans covering all of the event’s nine halls, which were crucial for easy navigation. Key areas, stages, and points of interest were highlighted, guiding attendees seamlessly through the venue and ensuring they could find their way to various activities and exhibits without hassle.

By tailoring these solutions specifically for a B2C crowd, Jublia and the PBAKL organizers were able to enhance the overall event experience, ensuring a smooth and engaging experience for all attendees.

Driving App Adoption

Creating and implementing these solutions was just the first step; ensuring people were aware of the event app was crucial for its success. To achieve widespread adoption, the organizers executed a comprehensive promotion strategy through their social media platforms.

The PBAKL organizers did an excellent job of spreading awareness about the app on their official Facebook and Instagram pages. They posted engaging content, including images and tutorials, to educate attendees on the app's features and benefits. These posts provided step-by-step guides on how to use the app, making it user-friendly and accessible to all attendees.

By effectively leveraging social media, the organizers ensured that a large number of attendees were aware of the app and its functionalities, which contributed significantly to its adoption rate. This promotional effort was key to enhancing the overall event experience, as more attendees could utilize the app to navigate and engage with the event seamlessly.

Impact and Success at the Book Fair

The implementation of these innovative solutions yielded impressive results for the PBAKL Book Fair. The Jublia app saw over 8,800 downloads, demonstrating its wide acceptance and utility among attendees. This high adoption rate was further evidenced by the 6,200+ session views, highlighting how attendees actively engaged with the event's content. Overall, the app generated a staggering 490,000 impressions, underscoring its significant impact on enhancing the event experience.

By leveraging their event platform, the event organizers  successfully managed a large-scale, public-facing event, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for all attendees.

PBAKL continues to be a beacon for promoting literacy and fostering connections within the literary community, thanks in part to the innovative use of event engagement technology.

From this, we can see that Jublia's versatility extends beyond managing the logistical challenges of large-scale events. The platform excels in flexibility, capable of facilitating both B2B and B2C event formats, ensuring seamless interaction between businesses and consumers alike. Frequently Asked Questions
What are the most effective strategies to drive event app adoption?
Effective strategies to drive vent app adoption depends on two windows: the weeks before the event and the first hour onsite. Pre-event, targeted email and social pushes drive downloads when attendees are most attentive. Onsite, clear signage at registration, gamified incentives, push notifications for what’s happening next, and removing login friction elevate the app value beyond logistic hub to drive adoption.
How can organizers ensure high engagement and meeting fulfillment at large-scale B2B events?
Success at massive events requires structured networking. Organizers can use data-driven, intelligent recommendation tools and a dedicated mobile platform to seamlessly connect attendees. By monitoring live interactions and sending timely reminders, they can achieve exceptionally high meeting fulfillment rates.
How do digital tools simplify discovery and navigation at multi-hall exhibitions?
Large exhibitions overwhelm attendees with floor plans they can’t read and exhibitor lists they can’t filter. Digital wayfinding fixes this. With an interactive map that ties exhibitor data to physical location and agenda integration, attendees can route between sessions and booths, and proximity clustering that surfaces what’s near them. The friction drop is the point: attendees see more of what they actually came for.
